Our Story

Carolina Coast Band Press Release

The Carolina Coast Band evolved in 2013 from the efforts of three former members of The Out-Of-Towners Band as well as other well-known regional beach music bands from the upstate of South Carolina.   The band delivers a combined 90 years of experience in Beach, Motown, R&B, and Oldies music to satisfy the demands of today’s party requests.  Their popularity continues to grow as they span the East Coast of the US performing and promoting Carolina Beach Music, Rhythm and Blues, and Party Music.

The band is a member of the Carolina Beach Music Association, (CBMA). The Band and several of its members have won or have been nominated for several awards by the association during the past several years, joining the ranks of the many great Beach Music bands in their industry.

Joey Werner is the band manager and plays keyboards and is a lead vocalist having performed with many regional artists throughout the years. He resides in Williamston SC and is originally from Woodruff SC.

Frank Wilkie is bass guitarist from Spartanburg SC and toured nationally with The Marshall Tucker Band, Rickey Godfrey Band, and Garfeel Ruff Band, where they landed in a movie.

Kym McKinnon is lead guitarist from Roebuck SC and lead vocalist and toured nationally for 15 years with Nappy Brown, famous blues artist.

Creig Harber from Atlanta, GA is on drums, vocals and tours occasionally with National Artists such as The Drifters. He is the head of the drum department at The Atlanta Institute of Music.

Alan Nowell from Anderson SC is on Sax, Flute, and vocals. He has toured internationally with several groups.

Rhonda McDaniel, Eleven Time and current CBMA Female Vocalist of the Year, and recording artist with several #1 Hits, joined the band in 2016 and has added her talents of both vocals and keyboards to give the band a great show of shag and beach music.

Rickey Godfrey has been blind since birth and has been playing guitar since he was 13. Though his main axe is the guitar, his first instrument was piano which he started playing at age 6. Rickey grew up in Greenville, SC and is currently living in Nashville TN. He has been labeled as a blues artist but is a very versatile singer musician who has won many awards for his musical  talents. Rickey was with Garfeel Ruff Band and had his own group called the Rickey Godfrey Band as well as many others!

The Band travels the US from Myrtle Beach, Edisto Beach, Hilton Head Island, Washington, DC, Jacksonville, Fl, Panama City, Florida, and all throughout the Carolinas, and Georgia, sharing their fun with their many fans throughout the east coast.
