Laurens, S.C. — The Historic Villa at Martha Franks Retirement Community marked its grand re-opening on Monday, May 19, with a ribbon cutting ceremony and community celebration attended by residents, community leaders, and local supporters.

The event began with guests being invited inside the Villa prior to the official ribbon cutting. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the restored interiors, experience the refreshed space firsthand, and enjoy a selection of snack foods as they mingled.

“People that visit here always tell me they are going back to the memories of past... it makes this a special place,” said Lynn McQueen, Director of Community Outreach at Martha Franks.

During the gathering, remarks were made inside the Villa by leadership and special guests, highlighting the significance of the restoration and the Villa’s role in the community. Senator Danny Verdin, who attended the event, said, “Martha Franks needs this venue, and Laurens needs this Villa.”

Following the indoor program, attendees moved outside to the steps of the Villa for the ceremonial ribbon cutting.

The re-opening is part of an ongoing initiative by the South Carolina Baptist Ministries for the Aging (SCBMA) to enhance facilities at senior communities across the state.

The Villa will serve as a multi-purpose space for community gatherings, meetings, and events, providing a renewed resource for residents and the broader Laurens community.
