Woman arrested for failure to stop for law enforcement

Posted

A woman is in custody after leading Laurens County deputies on a chase in a car with only three wheels Thursday morning.

Lt. Marty Crain with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were able to stop the woman by using stop-sticks to blow out the car’s remaining tires on Torrington Road just before 6 a.m.

Crain said the woman called 911 several times before deputies caught up with her. Her first call was to request an ambulance, but Crain said the woman quickly called back and said she would drive herself to the hospital. She called back again to tell dispatchers she had hit a deer.

When the woman struck the deer, she lost the right front wheel of her car.

Crain said another driver called 911 after seeing a car speeding and shooting sparks because it was missing a wheel.

Deputies caught up to the woman on Charlottes Road and tried to pull her over, but Crain said she would not stop.

The woman led deputies on a six-mile chase, during which she drove on the wrong side of the road at times and nearly struck other drivers head-on, Crain said.

Deputies deployed stop sticks on Torrington Road and said the car continued for about half-a-mile before it finally came to a stop near Curry Road.

Deputies said the woman was irate and acting erratically but was taken into custody without incident.

According to incident reports, the suspect was identified at 29-year-old Kay Marie Thomason, of 535 Thomason Farm Rd., Laurens. She was charged with failure to stop for blue lights.
