“The largest group of people, when you think of minorities who benefit from state contracts, are not people of color, they are white women… sometimes the face of their white husband’s business.”

SC Rep. John King’s Viral DEI Statement Sends Shockwaves: “White Women Are the Biggest Beneficiaries of State Contracts”

Columbia, SC — A video of South Carolina State Representative John King (D-York) is making waves across social media after he delivered a blunt reality check during a recent committee meeting: when it comes to state contracts and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) policies, the biggest beneficiaries aren’t people of color, they’re white women.

“The largest group of people, when you think of minorities who benefit from state contracts, are not people of color, they are white women… sometimes the face of their white husband’s business,” King said. “If DEI is the boogeyman, it’s not because of people who come from my community.”

The clip, posted Thursday, March 27th to the South Carolina Democratic Party's Facebook account, has since gone viral, reaching over 1.6 million views, striking a nerve online and reigniting a national conversation around race, gender, and who truly benefits from diversity programs.

In a political moment where right-wing leaders are targeting DEI as a divisive “radical agenda,” Rep. King’s comments are being praised as a rare moment of unfiltered honesty.

King, a long-serving member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, represents District 49 and has been a leading voice on equity, education, and government accountability.

SCDP Statement on Donald Trump’s Comments About Seeking a Third Term

Columbia, SC — Donald Trump’s latest suggestion that he would seek a third term as President is yet another dangerous threat to our democracy. The Constitution is clear: no president may be elected to more than two terms.

“Trump’s comments are not just reckless—they’re a direct assault on our Democracy. Americans decided over 200 years ago that we did not want a king and that we will never bend the knee to Donald Trump or any Tyrant,” said SCDP Chair Christale Spain. “South Carolinians know the dangers of unchecked power, and we will not allow Trump or his enablers to undermine our democracy.”

As Trump continues to push an extreme and anti-democratic agenda, the South Carolina Democratic Party remains committed to protecting the rule of law, defending our institutions, and holding Republicans accountable.

We call on every Republican in South Carolina to answer directly: Do you support Donald Trump’s unconstitutional ambition to serve a third term?

Our democracy is on the line, and South Carolina voters deserve to know where their leaders stand.

President Trump’s Peace Through Strength Is Correcting Course, Driving Results

After four years of foreign policy failures, President Donald J. Trump and his administration have made tremendous progress in restoring safety and security at home and abroad by implementing Peace through Strength.

All we really needed was a new president.

  • After President Trump demanded action, Mexico committed 10,000 of its own troops to our southern border and Canada deployed 10,000 of its own personnel to our northern border to help stem the flow of illegal immigration and illicit fentanyl into our country.

  • President Trump designated deadly drug cartels and vicious transnational gangs as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, empowering law enforcement to make enormous progressarresting and deporting these violent terrorists.

  • President Trump forced Colombia, Venezuela, and other countries to accept repatriation flights for their own citizens who were illegally in the U.S.

  • President Trump’s unprecedented effort to secure the homeland has driven illegal border crossings to historic lowsdown 95% over last year.

  • President Trump provided key intelligence to the Pakistani government, which led to the arrest and extradition of the ISIS terrorist who orchestrated the deadly Abbey Gate bombing.

  • President Trump increased U.S. counterterrorism activities and eliminated dozens of hardened terrorists — including a high-ranking ISIS attack planner in Somalia.

  • President Trump reimposed maximum pressure on the Iranian regime to reign in their nuclear ambitions and support for terrorism across the Middle East.

  • President Trump ordered strikes against Houthi terrorists, which have overwhelmed their leaders and networks and taken away their capabilities — not stopping “until they are no longer a threat to Freedom of Navigation.”
  • President Trump’s pressure led Panama to exit China’s Belt and Road Initiative, a debt-trap diplomacy scheme the Chinese Communist Party uses to gain influence over developing nations — a massive milestone as the U.S. seeks to secure the Western Hemisphere from Chinese influence.

  • President Trump’s leadership has secured the release of 39 U.S. citizens detained abroad — compared to just 80 citizens released across Biden’s four years in office.

  • President Trump brokered a temporary ceasefire in Gaza to ensure the release of hostages, including an American citizen — a deal Biden was unable to secure.

  • For the first time in three years, President Trump brought both Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table for serious discussions around a peaceful resolution — engagements that continue in earnest.
