The United Way of Laurens County last Tuesday (Sept. 27) played host to the ribbon-cutting grand opening of the city’s newest garden, Sweetheart Park Community Garden, across the street from the agency’s office. It is a partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, The City of Clinton, Clinton High School and District 56, and Sterilite whose employees spent time clearing the lots on which the garden sits, and the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce. United Way staff members have served as gardeners, and already there are Moonglow tomatoes and other produce coming forth from what used to be a vacated mill site.
