A VIGIL, AND A ROAD.

Posted

Vigil on Sunday. A message of racial harmony and friendship is given Sunday evening, May 2 in Joanna during a candlelight vigil in memory of two teenage best friends - Jasmine Peake and Maddison Simmons - killed in an ATV and tractor trailer collision on Thursday afternoon. Sponsored by Impact2Purpose and the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, the vigil was at Christ Center and Aim High park at a former Joanna school, on Hwy 66 where the fatal accident happened.

Slow Down Message. In the absence of traffic control lights, crosswalks, or police, folks in Joanna have painted their own “slow down and live” messages at the intersection of Pickens Street and Hwy 66, which is a truck route between Edgefield/Augusta and Whitmire/Rock Hill. That is where two teen friends - Jasmine Peake and Madison Simmons - died April 29 as their ATV collided with a tractor-trailer. No results from the Highway Patrol investigation have been announced to the public.  - Photos by Vic MacDonald
