On June 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Clinton Chronicle held its second annual Hometown Heroes event, a celebration recognizing the many people who make the Clinton community thrive. From first responders and teachers to business owners and everyday workers, the event highlighted all of the local heroes whose efforts keep Clinton moving forward day in and day out.
The event invited community members not only to honor everyday heroes, but also to be heroes themselves by donating blood through The Blood Connection’s mobile unit. Donors received a $50 gift card and a Freedom Week shirt as a thank-you for their lifesaving contribution. This act of giving embodied the spirit of the day, celebrating service in all its forms.
Over a dozen local vendors set up booths offering everything from handmade crafts and boutique clothing to lemonade, Southern cooking, and interactive games. These vendors are part of the fabric of Clinton’s daily life, and this event recognized them as the heroes they are.
Rezenee Brown, owner of Z World Gift Shop and Rezenee Photography, reflected on the effort it took to prepare. While she admitted it was hectic, she said, "I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love being here so much, getting to see the community come out, and everybody getting together, it’s just beautiful. A lot of times it’s not even about the sales, it’s about just getting out there and seeing what everybody is doing… We’re all just trying to make it."
Vendors appreciated the ease of setup and welcoming atmosphere. Roxanne Patterson of Mystic Moon said, "Thankfully, The Clinton Chronicle already had tables set up, so the only thing I had to do was glamify my booth. It’s very nice when you go to an event and it’s organized… you’re allowed to create the space how you chose to. It’s always great coming out to The Clinton Chronicle because they have such amazing events and help everyone get their name out there."
For some, the event was also an opportunity to grow their customer base. Jake Cooper of Big Air, which brought axe throwing and baseball activities, noted, "We love being a part of all of the community events. There’s always a chance to meet at least 20 people who’ve never heard of us. It’s a great way to get your name out there and reach folks you might never have reached otherwise."
Even with the summer heat, Karen Dunton of The Cozy Family Boutique stayed upbeat. "I feel hot, but it’s going good! It’s always hot when you’re setting up, but that’s why I wear my sweatband!" she laughed.
This annual Hometown Heroes event offers much more than food, music, and games; it celebrates the diverse forms of heroism found throughout the community. From teachers and nurses to mechanics, cooks, artists, and small business owners, these everyday heroes contribute tirelessly to Clinton’s strength and spirit. The Clinton Chronicle continues to honor all who serve and support the town, recognizing that their combined efforts are what help Clinton thrive.
