Vic's View: A Modest Suggestion (Portland's Lesson)

By Vic MacDonald/Editor
Now, United States Veterans have joined protestors in a siege in the embattled City of Portland, Oregon. Protestors won’t budge and occupying federal agents won’t leave until they know the courthouse is secure.
To that end, federal agents go out of the courthouse and through a fence in the late evening to have the protestors disperse. Protesting has gone on more than 2 months.

Publisher: Say no to fear, trust in Christ

Fear, he is a liar

He will take your breath

Stop you in your steps

Fear he is a liar

He will rob your rest

Steal your happiness

Cast your fear in the fire

'Cause fear he is a liar

- Zach Williams

During the pandemic, I see people gripped by fear. Pastor said Sunday: Fear is focusing on the problem and faith is focusing on God.

Satan’s most powerful weapon is fear.

Publisher: Thankful for freedom in a pandemic

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic my daughter would thank God for the quarantine in her prayers. She said it gave her more time with Mom and Dad. She said it was giving families more time together.

We've tried to keep things normal the past four months. I don't want the craziness of this time to scar by daughter the way it has some adults.

A new kitten, an inflatable above ground pool and weekend activities (dairy tour, rodeo and train ride) have helped create normal, among chaos.

During a pandemic we get bored and turn to Facebook and start doing top 10 lists. Last month, we looked at my top 10 movies. This month we look at my top 10 albums, covering multiple genres.

Top 10 albums

1. Tom Petty: An American Treasure. Every song is a classic. Tom Petty didn’t have the look of a rocker, but he rocked.

Favorite song – Southern Accent (written by Johnny Cash):

We have our own way of livin'

But everything is done

Being a parent is not easy.

Being a parent without the help of support structures like school and church is harder.

I’ve tried to keep things normal during COVID-19.

My daughter has a new kitten, Diego, which has helped.

And we purchased an inflatable pool. It measures 10x30 and holds 1,700 gallons of water.

It’s more of a swimming hole than a pool, but it’s all a 7-year-old needs.

We’ll my daughter decided to take Diego for a swim and his claws punctured the inflatable ring atop the pool.
