Roe vs. Wade.

In November of 2020, I wrote an Op-Ed titled “Please Mommy, No!” In that piece I expressed my opinion on the evils of abortion. In light of recent events centering around the US Supreme Court, the topic warrants further comments.

What is the hoop-la all about? Why all the protest? Why all the threats against targeted Supreme Court Justices? Why the assembly of protestors on the steps of the Supreme Court building and in front of Justices homes? Intimidating or threatening a federal judge is a federal crime, yet no arrest has been made. The protestors even selected Sunday, May 8 to stage demonstrations outside of some churches. That Sunday is recognized as “Mother’s Day.” By the way, how do these protests compare to the protest on January 6, 2021, that resulted in arrest and a congressional investigation? Only enforce the laws that you want too, right? Regardless of the Court’s decision, abortion will still be legal. Abortion will be left to each individual state to determine the particulars for the procedure or if the procedure will be allowed.

All this activity is certainly not about a woman’s right to choose. She has already made a choice. A choice to have sex. Please concede the understanding that I am not referring to rape or incest. The percentage of unwanted pregnancies from those acts is minuscule. So, what is really going on here?

I think the hoop-la has very little to do with the possibility of Roe vs. Wade being overturned. I think this action has a two-fold purpose; 1) to strengthen the Democratic liberal base in preparation for the mid-term elections and to give the liberal media something to crow about, and 2) to cause a distraction from other problems in our country. Other problems such as; the high price of gasoline, the high price of food items or lack thereof, the tens of thousands of illegals crossing our southern border, and the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. Folks have you heard, the US Congress (both houses) has passed a bill (this month of May) to provide $13.6 billion to help Ukraine protect its borders, yet we won’t even protect our own southern border. Figure that one out, and it ain’t National Security.

Whoever leaked the information about the possibility of Row vs. Wade being overturned, which is a breach of confidence and that person or persons should be fired at the very least or impeached at the very worst, isn’t really advocating a woman’s right to choose. That individual is deliberately politicalizing an institution of government that since its establishment has maintained its integrity separate from political parties. Not anymore! Folks, it is sad to witness the destruction of the United States. Former president Obama once said that America needs a fundamental change. Here it is! Benjamin Franklin, one of our country’s founding fathers, was asked by a lady when he emerged from the building after the Continental Congress had adopted the Constitution, “Sir what kind of government do we have?” To which he replied, “A republic madam, if you can keep it.”
