PC Volleyball Signs Three; Men’s Hoops One


Presbyterian College and head volleyball coach Korrinn Burgess announced the signing of Middle Blocker Sydney DeJong (Mt. Pleasant) Libero Caroline Henderson (Knoxville, Tenn.), and Middle Hitter Allie Wright (Simpsonville) to National Letters of Intent to join the Blue Hose in the fall of 2017.

Sydney De Jong - MB - 6-1 - Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Wando

High School: Her volleyball team went 45-7, 14-0 in the region ... Ranked 85th in the country and 2nd in the state of South Carolina ... Her HS team was Region Champion in 2013, 14, 15, and 16, as well as State runner up, in 2013 ...  Wando was State Champion in 2014 and 2015 ... Four-year Volleyball Letterman, a 2016 North/South All-Star Team Selection, as well as a 4A and 5A All-State Team member ... 2015 High School Sports Report-SCHSL Class AAAA Player of the Year ... 2015 PREPVOLLEYBALL.COM National Junior of the Year Finalist and Class of 2017 Top 50 Junior Recruit ... Earned several All-Tournament honors and was a 2015 MAXPREPS Player of the Year … A 2015 All-Region Player of the Year and 2015 All-Low Country First Team member ... Has amassed 700 career kills and 385 blocks ... A member of the Beta Club and Spanish Club, she recently earned an AVCA academic team award ... In her free time she has volunteered with Palmetto Pride, Wando Volleyball Youth Camps, and the "Read like a Sports Star" elementary literacy program

Personal: Born Sydney Parker De Jong April 21, 1999, in Charleston, S.C. ... Parents are Michael and Karen De Jong ... Has a sister, Samantha ... She chose PC because of the atmosphere and the people ... PC felt right for her as soon as she got on campus ... At PC she felt like she can become a better person, student, and athlete ... She loved it instantly and knew that she wanted to be a student athlete there ... Is looking at majoring in Biology.

“Sydney is very athletic,” said Coach Burgess.  “She typically plays MB, but I've see her take great swings on both pins and also serve receive and play defense. I'm excited that she can help us in any position.”

Caroline Henderson - L - 5-7 - Knoxville, Tenn./Christian Academy of Knoxville

High School:  A four-year varsity member, her HS team was two-time conference and regional champion, and was a state champion as well ... She ran track for three years, her team earning three varsity letters and a conference championship ... She was the state champion in the 4x200 ... A three-time All-District team member and a two-time All-Region and All-State member, she was on the Dorman and Brentwood All-Tournament teams ... On the Players to Watch List twice, she was a two-year team captain and two-time District Hitter of the Year ... As a junior she posted over 500 kills, 350 digs, 60 blocks, and 30 aces ... A member of the National Honor Society, she was named "Most Athletic" in the senior superlatives ... She volunteers with YoungLife and is a Volunteer Coordinator for Caring for the Meystrick's ...

Club: Played for the K2 Volleyball Club ... A three-time Club Team Captain, her team made four AAU Appearances ...

Personal: Born Caroline Aspen Henderson ... Parents are Todd and Kimberly Henderson ... Has a sister Chloe ... Father played football and baseball at Carson-Newman, and baseball professionally with the St. Louis Cardinals ... She chose PC because of the family atmosphere that she picked up on while on her visit ... She felt at home at PC and felt overwhelmed by the warm welcomes from the coaches, players, students, families, and administration ... It is in a convenient location and she was very impressed by the studying abroad and internship opportunities it offers ... PC is everything she has ever hoped for in a school ... Has two cousins the currently play football at Carson-Newman.

“Caroline comes from a great club program. I'm excited for the athleticism she brings to the libero position. She is going to enroll in school this spring which will give her a head start on how we do things at PC.”

Allie Wright - MH - 6-1 - Simpsonville, S.C./Eastside

High School: Aside from being a volleyball four-year varsity letter-winner at Eastside, she played HS softball, earning a varsity letter ... Volleyball team was Region Champion 2014-2016, a Runner-up in the State Championship in 2015 ... Team is 48-2 in Region, having gone undefeated the last 3 years ... 2016 Eastside Team Captain ... Was a member of the 2016 SC CAWS North/South All Star team and on the 2014, 15, and 16 SC CAWS AAA All-State team ... A 2014 and 2015 SC Region 2 AAA Player of the Year, she was 2016 SC Region 2 AAAA Player of the Year and on the 2014 and 2015 High School Sports Report All State team and the 2015 Greenville News First Team All Upstate team ... She was a member of several All-Tournament teams including  the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Eastside Invitational All Tournament Team, earning 2016 Eastside Invitational MVP honors ... A 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 High School All American she was a 2016 Under Armour All American Nominee ... In 2016  she was named Greenville County Female Athlete of the Week and  Eastside High Player of the Week ... A member of the  A/B Honor Roll, she was in the Math Honors Society and FCA ... Has amassed over 1,200 career kills and over 400 blocks … She was just named South Carolina 4A State Player of the Year

Club: Played for Axis Elite ... 2014, 2015, and 2016 JVA National Watch List Class 2017 ... Named to the 2014 and 2015 AVCA National Phenom Team and was a 2014 and 2015 AAU Top Players Class 2017 ... Her team was the 2015 AAU 16U National Champion, with her being named a 2015 AAU 16U All American and 2015 AAU 16U National Tournament MVP ... Wright was the 2015 and 2016 Team Captain

Personal: Born Alexandra Ruby Wright Nov. 16, 1998, in Asheville, N.C. ... Parents are Daniel and Rhonda Wright ... Brother Josh played baseball at USC Lancaster and Erskine ... Father played baseball and UNC Asheville, UNC Charlotte and Spartanburg Methodist ... Grandfather Carroll played football at Newberry ...  Chose PC due to the location, its majors, and athletics ... Intends to major in Business Administration.

“Allie is a winner!  She's had a very successful club and high school career, most recently being named the South Carolina AAAA State Player of the Year. She's a very smart and disciplined MB. She'll add immediate depth to that position.”



PC Men’s Basketball Adds Crouch


Presbyterian College and head men’s basketball head coach Gregg Nibert announced the signing of guard Romeo Crouch (Titusville, Gla.) to join the Blue Hose in the fall of 2017.

“We are very excited to sign a point guard of Romeo’s caliber,” said Coach Nibert.  “He’s very competitive and can really break the defense down on offense and I also feel he will be a lockdown defender one-on-one.  His leadership and size at the ‘quarterback’ position will help us immediately.  He comes from a tremendous Christian family and a very successful high school program under Coach Chris Bainbridge as well as a great AAU program, SE Elite CP25 FBC, coached by Jemel Daniels who was very easy to work with.”


Romeo Crouch - G - 6-3 - 175 - Titusville, Fla./Titusville

High School: Earned three varsity letter in basketball and one in football ...  HS basketball team was two-time district champion ... Averaged 17 points, six assists, and four rebounds per game through his junior year ... Also play club basketball with the Florida Basketball Club ... His team was Cape Coast Champion ... An honor student, he is part of the Suicide Prevention Help Club and volunteers at the YMCA ...

Personal: Born Romeo Elijah Crouch Sept. 5, 1998 ... Parents are Telly Daniel and Liberty Crouch ... Liked PC because of the family-like atmosphere ... Intends to major in Business Administration.
