TD BANK REEDY RIVER RUN ANNOUNCES NEW SPRING DATE AND CELEBRATES 39th Year
Greenville – The Greenville Track Club has announced the TD Bank Reedy River Run, presented by The Greenville News, will be held Saturday, April 23, in downtown Greenville.
This marks the 39th year of the race, which began in 1977 to highlight the revitalization of downtown Greenville.
The TD Bank Reedy River Run is one of the oldest road races in the south and continues to be one of the Upstate’s premier running events. After many years of being scheduled the first weekend in March, this year’s race will be moved to April as it was first conducted.
“TD Bank is proud to be involved in such a longstanding tradition that showcases Greenville’s attractive downtown and our community’s quality of life,” said Cal Hurst, Regional Vice President for TD Bank. “We believe that supporting community initiatives like this allows Greenville’s economic growth and development to continue to thrive.”
This year’s race will feature enhanced routes for both the 10K and 5K, which will begin and end on Main Street and highlight picturesque downtown Greenville. A Post-Race Festival, which will take place in Falls Park, will include an awards presentation, music, food and vendors.
“With new routes for the 10K and 5K races, we are confident this year’s race will satisfy all levels of runners and be an enjoyable time for families,” said Mike Caldwell, Race Director. “With the amount of other races scheduled in the early spring, a later date in April will allow for more runners and families to enjoy this wonderful event.”
On Saturday, April 23, the 5K race begins at 7:25 am and the 10K race begins at 7:55 am. The Youth Mile will take place on Saturday as well and will begin at 7:20 am. About the Reedy River Run
In the early 1970s, a group of influential business leaders approached the Greenville Track Club to establish a race highlighting the development of Cleveland Park and the creation of Heritage Green, as well as various other public efforts to enhance downtown Greenville’s overall appeal. In 1977, the Greenville Track Club approved the plans for the Reedy River Run, and during its first year, it was a featured 10K event on the Racing South Magazine Road Racing Circuit. The race is part of the Running Journal Grand Prix and was the 2002 USA Track & Field South Carolina 10K Championship. The 10K and 5K races are also USA Track & Field certified courses and sanctioned by the Road Runners Club of America. TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, has been the title sponsor of the race for more than 15 years.
