Letter: Support the Bicycle Route Petition
In "A Bike Path on Broad Street," the Chronicle Editorial Team hit the nail on the head, noting numerous reasons why cycling lanes were the "linchpin" for a revitalized Broad Street.
When I was a Furman student back in the late 1980's, there was a small, forgettable town just north of campus, which students never visited. To students like me, Traveler's Rest felt obsolete, run-down, forgotten.
Never would I have guessed that tiny Travelers Rest would blossom into a thriving, young, family-friendly destination with trendy coffee shops, bars, restaurants and outdoor outfitters. Really? Travelers Rest???
Yet that is what happened, and it was all made possible by a bike path that has generated wealth and prosperity in every community it has touched. What better way to lobby for a Swamp-Rabbit extension through Laurens County than to put bike lanes on Clinton's main artery?
With this hope in mind, I am circulating a petition that will be delivered to City Council during their September 3rd meeting. If you would like to support this initiative and sign the petition, email Justin at firstname.lastname@example.org
