The editor:

The editor: My wife and I live in Charleston, but for 27 years Clinton was our home. We still love the town and have many dear and cherished friends there. We have long thought of The Clinton Chronicle as one of Clinton's most precious treasures. Judi and I have been subscribers over many long years, from the Donny Wilder era on. I am writing to say how sad we feel that Larry Franklin has decided that the time has come for him to retire. Clintonians need to know that over the years Franklin has been at the helm, the Chronicle has won many, many awards and has been generally regarded as one of the best weekly papers in South Carolina. I especially appreciate his witty, thoughtful, and, yes, courageous editorials in which he has spoken truth not only to power but also to all of us. We hope that the Franklins will be supremely happy in Larry's retirement. bWe will miss the impact of Larry's spirit on the weekly editions of the Chronicle, but we are confident that he is leaving the paper bin very good hands. Long live Clinton, the Chronicle, and Larry Franklin. David Gillespie Charleston, S.C.
