Tapestry ins Laurens County Chamber small business of third quarter

Tapestry owner Leslie Anne Jackson, center left, and manager Megan Cauble, center right, accept the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce's Small Business of the 3rd Quarter award today at the chamber board meeting.

The presentation was made by Chamber Board Chairman Marilyn Easter and Chamber CEO Greg Alexander. Tapestry women's and men's fashions and accessories has been a part of the Clinton business community for 30 years. Located at 316 East Carolina Ave., the business has been a place of first employment for many young women in the community, and recently held a reunion of employees and customers to mark its third decade in business.

Easter and Alexander also presented the Ambassador of the 3rd Quarter Award to Robi Owens, of Laurens, during the meeting at the chamber's Professional Park office. The chamber board heard several reports, and was given a presentation on "A Family for Every Child," the foster families initiative of SC Department of Social Services and the state's universities.

Alexander reported on two upcoming events - the Nov. 5th fourth quarter cleanup of Laurens County's roads and the Nov. 10th Fan Challenge Oyster Roast, a chamber major fund-raiser. The board reviewed a magazine article about the Laurens County Future Scholarship - local students receiving this scholarship at Piedmont Tech have an average 3.5 GPA and are taking an average of 25 credit hours - and received a South Carolina Farmer magazine issue with and article about forestry - which includes information about Clinton forester Posey Copeland.

The chamber board accepted 9 businesses for membership - a total of 13 new members have signed up in the first 4 months of FY16-17, the annual goal is 48.
