Called meeting here Wednesday

Laurens County Council will conduct session in main conference room, Hillcrest Square

This is how the Administrative Wing of Hillcrest Square Judicial/Services Center in Laurens looked a year ago at this time. Now, the building is completed and county offices have been moved, with county labor and volunteers, from the Church St. admin building to Hillcrest Square.

On Wednesday, Laurens County Council will conduct its first meeting, a called session, in the admin wing's main conference room. The special session will be held at 5:30 pm.

Council intends to convene a closed, executive session to discuss one issue - an employment matter related to the hiring of a county administrator. After opening in open session, conducting a vote for the closed session (permitted for issues of employment under the SC Freedom of Information Act) and a discussion, council will reconvene in open session. Council cannot conduct a vote in closed session.

Council is considering a replacement for County Administrator Ernie Segars, who is retiring this month, and has narrow the list of applicants to three finalists - Greg Alexander, president and CEO of the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce; Jon Caime, Hart County, Ga., administrator; and Columbus Stephens, McCormick County administrator.

A council vote for Segars' replacement could be conducted in the subsequent open session, following the closed session discussion.

Laurens County Council's regular meetings are conducted the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month, 5:30 pm, in the council chambers, second floor of the historic courthouse in downtown Laurens.
