Fund designed to stabilize electric rates may be tapped

City has to pay its portion of a PMPA bond

Posted

Clinton City Council will consider using a portion of a fund designed to keep electric rates lower to pay for a bond by its electrical supplier.

The action will be considered Monday at the council’s regular monthly meeting, 6 pm in the PS Bailey City Council Chambers of the MS Bailey Municipal Center, 211 N. Broad St., Clinton. The meeting is open to the public and is live-streamed on the City’s Facebook page.

The agenda’s Item 7 says the council will consider using the Rate Stabilization Fund to cover the City’s portion of a Piedmont Municipal Power Agency bond.

Other agenda items are: hearing from people who sign up before the meeting starts to address the council on agenda items (each speaker normally allotted 2 minutes), proclamation: May 6 - 10, Teacher Appreciation Week, May as National Military Appreciation Month, May as Mental Health Awareness Month; and reports and recommendations.

After the meeting adjourns, council will convene a second meeting - a budget workshop - to begin discussion for the preliminary budget for FY 2024-25. The budget takes 2 readings and 1 public hearing to become an ordinance.
